New Building Regulations changes to Part L are now in effect

It’s here. The New Part L 2022 has now come into force.

Changes to Part L (Conservation of fuel and power) of Building Regulations came into force on 15 June in the form of two new Approved Documents.

Part L & Part O.

The changes in Part L are a major step in the government’s drive to become carbon neutral.

There are higher performance targets – CO2 emissions are reduced by 31% for dwellings and 27% for other buildings – and a new emphasis on low carbon heating systems. These are an interim step towards the Future Homes Standard and Future Buildings Standard that will arrive in 2025.

The new Part O Building Regulation that deals with overheating in domestic dwellings and residential like commercial properties such as care homes and student accommodation was first published on 15th December 2021. The guidance surrounding this new Building Regulation is laid out within Approved Document O: Overheating.

We are here to offer help, advice, and start the process with you to get your Building Regulations under way.

The requirements to pass Building Regulations have become much more stringent, and there are things we all need to get used to, providing information to gain compliance, both at design stage and as built stage.

Call us today for help, advice or to get your project started.

Don’t delay your regulations. If you start building and haven’t yet had your SAP calculations or SBEM calculations produced, you need to get in touch as soon as possible to avoid costly upgrades at built stage.
